There are two methods companies use to set up a Clearance Page for their websites:
Method 1
- Create a new Product Category called "Clearance".
- Build product pages for each of the products or product groupings that you have on clearance.
- Each product or product grouping will need to be assigned to a manufacturer (MFG). This is a requirement for product pages.
- If there is value in breaking them out by MFG, then assign the specific MFG to the correct product.
- If there is no value in breaking them out by MFG, then create an MFG called "Clearance" and assign all of the products and product groupings to it.
- If you assign a different MFG, then your products and product groupings will be listed by MFG on the category overview page.
- If you assign them all to one category, your products and product groupings will be listed together instead of being separated by individual MFGs
The value of using the product page template is that the shopper can add an item to the cart and request more information about it. Clearance will also show up in the product menu hierarchy. You can then create a module on your homepage specifically for clearance items and link it to that section in the products section, or you can use the dynamic modules to show the clearance items from the homepage.
Method 2
- Create a regular page
- Insert images. If you have a lot of images, consider using one of the gallery modules.
- Give each image a good title/label that is easy to understand.
- Insert a form on that page allowing the shopper to request more information about the item(s)
If you use Method 2, the page cannot show up in products, but it can be anywhere else on your site. However, you can still build a module on the homepage to draw more attention to the clearance items.
